How long should you wait to see a physio or commence rehabilitation after an acute muscle strain?
Not long at all!
Research tells us that those who commence rehabilitation 2 days after muscle injury return to sport 3 WEEKS SOONER in comparison to those who wait 9 days post injury (Bayer et al., 2017).
This result is achieved without any increase in the risk of re-injury, as regular and controlled mechanical loading EARLY after injury is required to reduce the adverse affects of immobilisation on muscle function.
If you are serious about returning to sport as quickly and as safely as possible after injury, don’t delay your progress. See a qualified professional and commence rehabilitation as early as you can!
