UNDERSTANDING PAIN

A fair whack of our social media content is based around pain, and we spend a decent amount of time at CB Physiotherapy discussing the science behind pain with our clients… and there is a good reason why!⁣

There is Level 1 evidence (a recent systematic review which included 14 high quality studies) to conclude that the addition of pain education to other physiotherapy treatments has a large positive impact on short term pain, long term pain as well as long term disability (Marris et al., 2019). ⁣

*Pain is a PROTECTIVE mechanism produced subconsciously by the brain.

*Pain is an unpleasant sensory experience, which alerts us to actual or potential tissue damage, in order for us to change our behaviour or seek care.

*Pain is NOT a measure of tissue damage, but rather an indicator of our brains desire to PROTECT certain tissues.

Understanding why you are in pain is the first step to understanding how to get out if it. Educate yourself to achieve optimal physical health! ⁣
