STANDING DESKS
Sitting down at a desk all day (which a huge amount of our population are paid to do for 40 hours a week) causes (or at least contributes) to a number of health issues, such as lower back pain, hip flexor tightness, postural related upper back, neck and shoulder pain, cervicogenic headaches, obesity and deconditioning to name a few.
Standing desks are a fantastic tool to manage or prevent all of the above, and are becoming increasingly common in offices and workplaces. Standing desks allow you to easily adjust the height of your work station, to alternate from sitting to standing and back throughout the day.
This allows you to stretch out your muscles and ligaments, improve your posture, and even burn more calories as you work.
No one should be sitting down all day if it can be avoided, so be sure to ask if something like this is available at your work place. I would hope than in the next 10-15 years, every office building in the country would be operating with standing desks.
If you work in an office and you workplace isn’t as accommodating as some, then be sure to take regular breaks from sitting, and get up and move around at least every hour!
