PAIN IS NOT DIRECTLY CORRELATED TO TISSUE DAMAGE
Tissue damage can occur without having a pain experience…
🔹Ever noticed a bruise and can’t recall how you go it?
Likewise, severe pain can exist despite only minor tissue damage…
🔸Paper cut = very small injury but bloody painful!
Pain is influenced by our surroundings & thoughts…
🔺Sometimes you forget about pain when you’re distracted by a task or a conversation, only to remember it later when that activity is over.
🔺Pain is sometimes more noticeable at night when you’re lying in bed because you have nothing else to think about.
Pain is weird, wonderful and complex. It sucks at times, but is a fantastic protective system designed to keep us safe. Understanding this is often a helpful first step in getting out of pain and recovering from injury!
