BACK PAIN IN A NUTSHELL

BACK PAIN IN A NUTSHELL

Did you know less than 10% of lower back pain is caused by serious or specific conditions like cancer, fractures, or disc prolapse? That leaves 90% of back pain with no clear structural cause—meaning it’s non-specific.

Non-specific lower back pain (NSLBP) isn’t about damage; it’s about sensitization of the area. It’s important for both patients and healthcare providers to remember this.

While NSLBP can feel intense at first, the outlook is usually very positive—especially if the right education and reassurance are given early on.

Here’s the key takeaway: pain doesn’t always match the damage. Severe pain doesn’t mean severe injury.

Treatment should focus on easing symptoms first, then getting you moving and functioning again as soon as possible.

And don’t forget—exercise is critical! Getting back to normal movement and building strength and resilience in your lower back muscles will make all the difference in your recovery.
